Use Text Ads Only
Depending on your site, but I have never found that image ads worked for me. There is a place in the AdSense Setup where you can select "Text and image ads", "text ads only" or "image ads only". Once in a while, I try to image ads, and some of them look ok, but then a chilling view of one-will come together and ruin the look of my site. This is easier to control the look of your site if you use only text ads.
What Size is Best
I have had good luck with the Medium Rectangle (300 x 250) or the Large Rectangle (336 x 280) placed in the top left hand corner of the post, just under the title of the post. Choose a size that still leaves enough space for the text to flow around it on the right.
Both formats are Skyscraper (120 x 600) or Large Skyscraper (160 x 600). This works in the sidebar, but I've found more people to click if it is in the post area, either to the right or left, with the text of the post to them. In this case, it seems almost like a column 3. (If you have 2-column themes).
The idea is you can start, but this is something that you need to test on your own site.
Link Units use sparingly, If At All
Horizontal link unit that can work well if you put them that is usually visible for site navigation. I used to use it there, but feel a little deceptive. I really do not use them much more.
Do not Put Ads on Your Home Page
If you want people to link to you, keep the ad in your home page. This is the page that most people will check when deciding whether to make a link to your site. You want to look good and not just as a site-to-adsense. So do not put the ad here.
That really will not hurt you too much income. Many people enter the site by one of the post on a single page, and you will have ads on them. Even if they entered the home with the page, they will often click through to a post page, where your ad.
Place Ads Above the Fold
"Above the fold" is a term that comes from newspapers, which meant part of the page that you can see when the newspaper folded in half. On the website, means that part of the page that you can see without doing any scrolling.
Put your ad on the top of the fold so that visitors will see them. Many visitors will not bother scrolling.
Most of you have Site Navigation below Fold
If you really want people to click on your ad, do not have a lot of other places they can be seen above the fold. If I have the navigation in the sidebar, in my AdSense sites, I will always have something like a photo or a quote, or a link to my RSS feed, rather than actual site navigation, above the fold.
In this way, those who are not interested in scrolling akan more likely to click on AdSense.
You still Visitors In Mind
Sums up this tip the tips.
What will you have, the site that very few visitors, but a lot of money per visitor, or a site that many, many visitors, even if you are a visitor?
I will have more high-traffic sites, even if I am less per visitor.
This is why I focus on the readers of the first, second and ads. I want my site to see the good and useful for visitors, so they will come back, they will link to me, so I even more visitors, then I will rise up in search results.
Well, this site useful, you always have room for growth, because you can market and get more visitors.
No matter how much you are chilling the market, ad-overloaded site, you will not increase by more visitors.
On the other hand, do not be ashamed to have multiple ads on your site. This can help your visitors. They may feel there is something they can not find on your site, make them happy, and make you happy by getting AdSense clicks.
Think of your ad as a service to your visitors. Make sure they are visible, but they make elegant and delicious.
